Cavity Treatment
Permanent teeth are meant to last a lifetime,
and unlike skin, once they are damaged,
they do not naturally regenerate or recover.
To maintain healthy teeth throughout a long life,
regular check-ups, systematic care,
and timely treatment are essential.
Q. How does tooth decay progress?
Early-Stage Decay
If the decay has stopped progressing, it may simply be monitored over time based on the dentist’s clinical judgment.
Enamel Decay
This is the stage where decay is limited to the enamel only, making it an ideal time for treatment.
Because there is usually little to no pain or other symptoms,
it is often discovered during a regular dental check-up.
Dentin Decay
Sensitivity to cold and hot foods or drinks begins at this stage, but because it may not hurt while eating, many people leave it untreated.
Pulpitis
This occurs when decay has progressed to the pulp, the innermost part of the tooth.
At this stage, severe pain is common, sensitivity to heat becomes stronger, and root canal treatment is usually required.
Q. What treatment options are available for tooth decay?
Resin
Resin is a tooth-colored material
that is relatively affordable.
Because treatment can usually be completed in a single visit, it is a suitable option for simple cavity treatment.
Inlay
An inlay is a restorative treatment in which decay is removed and the tooth is shaped,
then a precisely fabricated restoration
made from tooth-colored material or gold
is placed to restore the tooth.
Crown
In this treatment, a prosthetic restoration is placed over the tooth like a cap or crown to cover and protect it.
Quantitative Fluorescence Examination Using the Qray Pen
Qray is an advanced diagnostic device that uses harmless visible light and a special filter to examine the oral cavity, helping detect even early interproximal caries that may not be visible to the naked eye.
Areas affected by plaque, decay, or cracks appear as red fluorescence, allowing both the dentist and the patient to see them directly. This makes it possible to establish a clear treatment plan based on accurate diagnosis without missing hidden problem areas, and it also helps patients understand the plan more quickly, leading to better treatment outcomes.
At New York S Dental Clinic, we use this world-class patented fluorescence technology to objectively identify and treat oral bacteria, cavities, and tartar within the mouth.
